The main reason I purchased this watch was because it was unique with the all black features and that it was slimmer and had a smaller diameter than other Pathfinders. So far, I’m not impressed. I CAN NOT HONESTLY SAY THE HIGHER PRICE IS WORTH IT. When I received the watch, it had no power whatsoever. At first I thought it might be defective, but after reading the manual, it states that after a period of time without light, it will completely shut down and need to be recharged. I’ve had the watch on either a window sill directly in sunlight or outside directly in sunlight for the past four days and it still has not charged completely. The quality of the watch is questionable. The bezel material is a soft plastic and that will take a majority of the abuse. I think I would rather have it be made of steel or a harder plastic. It looks and feels like a cheap $10 watch from Wal-Mart. I doubt it will hold up to the same type of beating as the PAG40 that I owned. I’m going to give it another couple days and see how it goes. If I’m going to spend this much money on a watch, I will probably consider a different Pathfinder.

I’ve owned a Pathfinder PAG40 but it finally died so I can honestly compare the two. The PAG40 took a lot of beating and the batteries lasted a lot longer than advertised. I got used to the overall size of the PAG40 and I have just a medium sized wrist. Although I do admit it was tight under certain long sleeve shirts with the watch on but that’s because of it’s thickness. It looks like Casio has made all the other Pathfinders slimmer than the original PAG40. The 1300 series is about the size of my other watch (Invicta Pro Diver) in diameter and thickness.

UPDATE: The watch is finally fully charged after over 5 days. For being fully charged, the display is very dim. Lower light conditions will be a challenge with this watch. If you are interested in the 1300 Series Watch, I suggest getting the other models with the regular display. I will be returning this watch for another model.

UPDATE: I decided to return the watch to Amazon and just waiting for my refund. I since then decided to purchase the PAW1500T-7V and I love it. Yes, it is a titanium band, not synthetic, which I was little unsure of due to the fact it’s not adjustable to what I’m wearing, but I am not disappointed. If I want to change the band out for an adjustable plastic band, I still can. It is very rugged, light weight, and still smaller than the original PAG40, but bigger than the PAW1300 series. A very sexy watch for those who like the larger diving watches. Another benefit is that I didn’t have to wait a week to charge it up. It was fully charged when I received it. I found it cheaper at [...] compared to amazon but that is because it is a clearance item. Very fast shipping especially if you are on the west coast. Other than that, you probably won’t find it cheaper anywhere else.

  2. This casio watch would have been a great watch for me but the black is coming off on the benzel. Now I wonder how long will it be until the gold and black closer to the face will start to chip away. I saw another one of these for $300 if I would have saw it first I probably may have purchased it. At least the paint would not have chipped off. Other than that which matters to me it is great how long will I keep this watch since I have had it maybe 30 days not long it real takes away from the bueatifulness of the watch.

Great looking watch, function just like other pathfinder series, it’s about a standard g shock size watch, unlike the newer pathfinder models, they are bigger watch. You have to pay anywhere from $40 to $65 more for the same model of pathfinder watch due to the reverse LCD.

I have a lot desent watches, like omega, tag heuer, rado, longines…but I wear this more, since you never need to take care of him too much, he takes care of himself very well. the coolest thing, no need to worry about out of battery.

  5. First off, I was surprised when I first looked at the watch that it is not a G-Shock. It doesn’t have all of the little bumps that protect the outside, especially the crystal, and I would assume that the movement lacks some protection as well. Within a couple of days I was able to put a mark on the crystal that I thought was a scratch, but with a lot of wet rubbing it came off. I just know from the way I bump into things that this crystal will get all scratched up in no time.

This is the third Atomic Solar (not Pathfinder) watch that I’ve owned so I know some things from experience:

    1) It’s the best watch made for everyday use. You don’t have to worry if it’s accurate or changing the battery. When I lost one (see below) I felt naked without it, I had to get another one right away even though I have more watches.

    2) Not having a battery is technically true but misleading. There is a capacitor that looks just like a battery, works like a battery, and dies like a battery. I had one go completely dead from being in the dark and it would not take a charge. After a tiring web search I found a place that sells these, I installed it, and it worked. Unfortunately, I put it outside on a window ledge to fully charge and it blew off. I wonder if the person that found it after its 3 story fall got it in working condition.

    3) The resin band will break like plastic just from normal wear. Be prepared to search and pay a premium for a new band made for the watch. I started spraying my band and whole watch for that matter with Armor-All and it seemed to solve the problem.

    4) Don’t use the light all of the time, especially with the automatic flip of the wrist. The light is only good for so many uses (another mentioned but not explained item) and it dies. Probably when you really need it.

The look of this watch can be viewed two ways. In one way it is understated high-tech, in the other it can look like it’s made out of cheap plastic. For this much money it should at least have a black titanium band, other models in the same price range do. The display is OK, but I’m thinking that the normal black on white display is easier to read, if not as mysterious looking.

The functions are terrible. All of the pathfinder functions are barely usable. The thermometer works OK on my desk, but when I put the watch on it jumps 10-15 degrees. I don’t know and I don’t really care about the barometer except as a curiosity. The altimeter is off by 500ft, I haven’t calibrated it yet. The compass is downright dangerous. It swings off by 20-40 degrees, and I did calibrate it. If you use this watch to navigate with, you’d better pack a lot of food and water, cause you’re gonna get lost.

I’m hoping that the functions settle down after a while, or that I learn to compensate for the errors. Out of all of them I really wanted the compass to work. I’ll update this if things change.

I haven’t decided if I really like the look of the watch, and if I do, it makes up for the problems. I kept all of the packaging materials just in case. Or I could donate it to the Boy Scouts?
