My next review will be a video review. For now I will just share my preliminary thoughts on this little work of art.
Just received it recently, used it just once, realized my laptop’s processor was not powerful enough so bought a matching laptop. What I mean by matching – the leanest laptop on Earth for the leanest cam on Earth.
Of course, the Mac.
Why lean? Buy one and see.

WOW..I ACTUALLY THOUGHT I HAD PURCHASED THE VIDEO CAMERA OF MY DREAMS..NOW, 4 MOS LATER, WITH ONLY MINIMAL USE, MY ULTRA HD IS NON-FUNCTIONING..AND SURPRISE..I GOOGLED IT TODAY AND SEE THAT MANY, MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM AS MINE..ERROR MESSAGES REGARDING BATTERY NOT CHARGING, NOT BEING PLUGGED IN, AND A FROZEN SCREEN WHILE PLAYING BACK VIDEOS THAT IS ONLY SOLVED BY REMOVING THE BATTERY PACK..CAN YOU IMAGINE, THAT I MUST REMOVE THE BATTERIES EACH TIME I WANT TO SEE SOME 10 SECOND VIDEO I RECORDED..NOW I SEE WHY THERE IS ONLY A 3 MOS WARRANTY ON THIS ITEM..BECAUSE FOLKS, THATS ABOUT HOW LONG IT LASTS..I PLACED A CALL TO AMAZON TONIGHT AND GOT TO SYMPATHY FROM THEM AT ALL..DESPITE THE FACT THAT I BUY SO MUCH FROM THEM..THEY TOLD ME TO GO TO THE FLIP PEOPLE..I DIDNT BOTHER, BUT WENT TO AM/EXP INSTEAD..THEY ARE GIVING ME MY MONEY BACK THANKFULLY..BUT I AM WRITING THIS TO LET FUTURE BUYERS KNOW THAT THERE IS INDEED A DEFECT IN THE FLIP HD ULTRA..THIS ONE IS NOT A LEMON..ALL OF THEM ARE..SOONER OR LATER IT APPEARS..MINE MADE IT 4 MOS..I WILL NEVER PURCHASE A FLIP PRODUCT AGAIN..AND SHAME ON AMAZON FOR NOT HELPING ME OR OTHERS WHO SUFFERED THE SAME FATE WITH THIS INFERIOR PRODUCT!

This camera only shoots in 1280 x 720 which ends up being 720p. It does not do very well in dim lit situations and in bright situations it has a hard time with lens flare. Also I found video to be impressive for such a small device. But I ended up taking it back to the store. I am instead getting a digital still camera that also does video in “HD”.

I was soo looking forward to get this camcorder because it is supposed to be portable and functional since I am a realtor and would use it a lot to record my activities. Unfortunately I am very disappointed in it. The reason:
1. It does not have a STABILIZER, so the images were jumping all over the place and a tripod would desperately be needed. What’s the use of having a POCKET camcorder if you have to carry a tripod in order to take videos? It is not portable and handy any more. You might as well have a regular handycam.
2. The SOFTWARE needs improvement! When you take a video you want to EDIT the frames and delete what you don’t want to show. You CANNOT do that. First of you should be able to SPREAD OUT the frames in the workspace so that you can pick those frames you want to delete and not show when you play the video. The software only allows you to choose the starting and end points and therefore you cannot MIX or intersperse videos taken at different times to form one video.
3. For portability (think pocket) maybe I should have bought a mino but they don’t come in HD and 120 minutes at the time I bought it.
4. I am so sorry but I have a hard time understanding the customer support persons because of either strong accents from a different country or communication connection.
5. I would like to return the camcorder but then I was told that I will be charged shipping and handling so I am stuck with it. I think Amazon should allow returns in good original condition if they are dissatisfied with the purchase without penalizing customerss with shipping and handling. So folks, watch out…make sure it’s an item you want to keep before ordering from Amazon.

This is a great idea but in actuality it’s a wasted of money. You WILL have problems with this video camera at some point. I googled my problem and it seems most people have had it too. I called customer service and they have inexperienced staff that read to me off a preestablished list of steps that I had already done and ended up wasting my time. Now I have videos that I can’t get and money down the drain. Google it and you will see that everyone else has problems with the flip video camera.
