Ordered this from Amazon and had it in a week. Beware that it is a raw drive. No cables or instructions included. It is pure SATA so you will need both a SATA data cable, and a SATA power cable, or adapter if you PS does not have SATA connections.

Installation was simple, pop it in, connect the power and data cables. My system found it on boot with no problems. My software has not problems with it. I did not install any of the software that came with it. Nor much of a review, but then it is just a DVD burner and ther is not much to say other than it works.

Installation fast. Worked right away. What more could you want? Oh, quiet too. Better than the piece of junk we got from Dell. That one was a problem from the beginning…

Can understand another reviewer’s disgust with the preinstalled Bluebirds software. LG screwed up on that one, but the LG support site does tell you how to get rid of it. Have a feeling they took a lot of flak over this screwup. All that aside, it’s a good DVD burner that does what it’s supposed to do and does it quietly. Easy to install (but aren’t they all) and worked right out of the box, even using Amazon’s $1.30 cables. Chose to ignore the Cd that came with it as Nero 9 recognized the drive and works fine with it. At this price, it’s a very good value. Now, if it will just last longer than the Samsung it’s replacing.

  4. I bought this drive to replace an older LG that had worked well until I broke the tray by accident. Installation was easy but when I booted my computer up popped an odd icon called “Bluebirds”. Come to find out, it is some horrible firmware permanently install on the drive. I took a couple of days, but I found a site with other users, one of which created a program to strip this program. It worked. What was LG thinking of? The drive works well enough but you can buy any number of great drives for the same price, without being angered by unwanted bloatware. Good going LG, annoy the customers so they won’t buy your products in the future!

The drive was easy to install, and already has the newest firmware TN01. No more “bluebirds” and no need for you to search for and install the new firmware. The drive is OEM, not retail, but does come with some software : LG Burning Tools, LG Power Tools, PowerDVD, Power Producer, YouCam, and Norton Internet Security trial.
