  1. This order was a mistake. Wrong size lens. The handling of the return & refund was wonderful & quick.

I received this lens on Friday 3/13/09 and returned it the same day.

The order process and customer service through Amazon & Photobags was very good. However, the lens was mechanically unsound and or simply a poor design.

I did shoot some pictures with it the short time I had it and they looked great from either end of the spectrum, from 18 all the way to 270.

I had read where some were somewhat dissatisfied with the action of the zoom in that it got tight at the mid point. Mine didn’t get a little tight, it stopped. I figured that it just needed a little more effort to make it get past that point but was wrong, I turned with enough force that the rubber zoom ring jumped track! If I pointed the barrel downward it would zoom out just fine, if I pointed the barrel upwards it would retract just fine. If I tried to point the camera as if taking a picture and trying to either zoom out or in it would lock up tight at the midway point.

I would not accept this problem in a lens that cost $25.00 much less one costing as this one did.

  3. This zoom was too big, in my opinion, for a Canon Rebel XT. Zooming was hard about mid-way…drove me nuts. Lens creep was very bad, when I went to review pictures out the lens went. Decided to return the lens and ended up buying a Canon 55-250.

The seller, Buyers Republic (Akin Eso), 8224 Autumn Lake Court, Severn, MD 21144, did not include the lens hood with the lens. I have learned that this is standard equipment and is part of the original “in the box” lens kit.

He did ship with the original box. Perhaps this is why the price was so good???? I have been unable to track down the seller. Can you help.

Its a good all around lens for outdoor use, otherwise a flash will be necessary for better results for indoor use. I also have the tamron 18-50 2.8 and I guess my expectation was to high comparing it to the 2.8..

I’m attempting to read this in the 5.2.7.2 revision of the safari browser and the footer looks sorta broken up. Might want to check that out.
